The Detroit Tigers were one of the most unexpected teams in Major League Baseball in 2024 at 86-76.
Not only did the Tigers make the playoffs for the first time since 2014, but they swept the American League powerhouse Houston Astros in the wild-card round.
Finally having some postseason success after that long drought, the Tigers are making moves this offseason to improve their roster for 2025.
After signing starter Alex Cobb, Detroit added second baseman Gleyber Torres.
Former MLB shortstop Al Leiter gave his thoughts on Torres joining the Tigers.
“Gleeber, tremendous talent, right? … I think this is a perfect team,” Leiter said via MLB Network.
“Gleyber (Torres) is a tremendous talent, I think this is perfect. This is a future team.”

The Tigers signed Torres to a one-year, $15 million deal after he moved from the New York Yankees.
Torres made his major league debut in 2018 and has played all seven seasons of his MLB career with the Yankees.
In 2024, he played 154 games, hitting .257 with 15 home runs, 63 RBI and a .709 OPS.
Leiter said the Tigers have a young roster and recently proved they have what it takes to compete with MLB’s best.
The Tigers will be a team to watch in 2025 as they try to win their first American League Central title since 2014.
