Former GM reveals how Blue Jays could trade Juan Soto in free agency

The 2024 Major League Baseball season is now over as the Los Angeles Dodgers have won the World Series over the New York Yankees.

Now that the season is over, attention will turn to the free agent class, led by star Yankees outfielder Juan Soto.

Many teams are reportedly interested in Soto, including the Yankees, Dodgers, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays.

Steve Phillips, the former Mets general manager, revealed how the Blue Jays could trade Soto this offseason.

“You’re going to be in a historic, legendary and iconic country. You’re going to be loved by an entire country,” Phillips said.

The Blue Jays are the only MLB team based in Canada, and Phillips believes they should try to sell Soto as an MLB legend for an entire country, not just a city or state in the United States.

Soto just finished his first season as a Yankee in which he hit .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBI and a .989 OPS.

With so many big-market teams lending their pitches to Soto, Phillips believes the Blue Jays should use being Canada’s only team to their advantage.

All teams will try to sell Soto, being a winning organization and World Series contender, but the Blue Jays will have an entire country behind them.

It will be interesting to see how Soto’s lottery plays out and if the Blue Jays stay in the mix as the season progresses.
