The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for the third straight year after finishing with an 81-81 record, which placed them in third place in the American League East.
With the AL East being one of the toughest divisions in all of baseball, the Red Sox will need to stay aggressive in the offseason to keep up with the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.
The Red Sox have added talent to their pitching staff, acquiring Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox and Walker Buehler from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Former MLB GM Jim Duquette recently revealed another move the Red Sox need to make, and that is the signing of third baseman Alex Bregman from the Houston Astros.
“The one big issue they haven’t addressed yet is defense in the outfield, and they also need a right-handed bat. So those two things can be accomplished in one signing, I think, and that’s Bregman and you (Raphael) Devers move to first,” Duquette said via MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM.

Bregman is arguably the best bat still available through free agency, and he had another great year with the Astros in 2024.
He played in 145 games and hit .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBI and a .768 OPS.
Not only will Bregman provide a solid right-handed bat, but he also won his first Gold Glove Award at third base last season.
The Red Sox have made some impressive moves in their rotation, but Duquette said adding Bregman will add to their offseason to-do list.
Although the Red Sox haven’t won the division since 2018, they’ve won four World Series since 2004 and look to be even more competitive in 2025.
