Nahir Albright wants to fight top-ranked lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason next, and he believes he will be the perfect opponent to “destroy” to get the rust out of the ring after a year.
Mason’s vulnerability
Top rankings likely won’t allow Albright to fight Mason (16-0, 14 KOs) after his recent performance against Yohan Vazquez on Nov. 8 at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Vazquez dropped the 20-year-old Mason twice in the first round and might have finished the job had he not suffered a leg injury.
Mason came back to knock out Vazquez in round two, but at that point he was fighting a one-legged guy. The fight showed Abdullah doesn’t have a big Chin and will need more development.
Albright (16-2, 7 KOs) has not fought since his clash with 2020 Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis on October 14, 2023. He initially lost the fight by a close 10-round majority decision. It was later overturned by the Texas State Athletic Commission and changed to a no decision due to Keyshawn testing positive for Marijuana.
Keyshawn made a big deal out of his win being taken away and said afterward that he would buy a house to make himself feel better. He was lucky not to lose, as Albright defeated him in the eighth and carried him with pressure from the final four rounds of the contest.
Albright exposed Davis in that fight as not the fighter some thought, but that didn’t surprise hardcore boxing fans, who saw him lose to Cuba’s Andy Cruz in the 2020 Olympics. They see him as a hype job.
“I would destroy Him”
“I want to smoke Abdullah Mason. No one calls out Abdullah Mason. I want to fight him. His chin is questionable,” Nahir Albright told YSM Sports Media. “He could fight, but I would destroy him. I know I will destroy him. Top Rank needs to make that fight.
“To knock off the rust so I can get Gervonta before he retires. So, I knock him down (Mason). I shake off my ring rust and then take on Tank. At the moment. No lie,” Albright said.
