Given Honda’s wealth and prestige, it seems only a matter of time before they return to the front of the field. But many of the biggest names in motorsports have fallen for such thinking.

The 2027 rule changes could see the grid change. But bosses in Asaka don’t want to wait that long to see clear progress.

to speak MotosanBradl offered a preview of the season ahead. Following Espargaro’s arrival this year, he is set to take on fewer responsibilities.

Honda are ready to ‘move forward’ after sacking Romano Albesiano from Aprilia.

Honda has poached Romano Albesiano from Aprilia to make its biggest off-track signing of 2024. Albesiano has been with the Italian team for over 10 years, replacing Luigi Daleignano.

In the year Aprilia has been instrumental in the rise of the MotoGP grid, to the point where they were able to attract 2025 world champion Jorge Martin.

Honda have re-deployed Ken Kawauchi to the challenger team to make room for Albesiano, who will link up with Espargaro. It is the first time that a European engineer has been appointed to a senior role.

According to Bradl, this shows the team’s readiness to ‘move forward’. They are willing to part with long-standing work practices if it means improved results.

“We are all focused on what the new technical director can bring,” he said. “This is the first time that Honda has given this role to a European, which is a clear message that they want to move forward.

“At the moment they are working very hard in the factory to build the bikes. But it is a time-consuming process.

Stefan Bradl has made a serious introduction about the Honda 2025 MotoGP bike

Albesiano was able to start work last week, avoiding a long garden period. However, the 2025 bike may be too advanced in its development to make a big impact before the season opener in Thailand.

The shakedown test is three weeks away, with the first pre-season test taking place a week later. Albesiano’s influence may be more pronounced in the second half of 2025, leading into 2026.

As it is, Johan Zarco says Honda’s 2025 bike is worse than its predecessor.. If true, that would almost certainly set them up for a repeat of last year’s championship performance.

Espargaro quickly complained about Honda’s balance Bradl says after his first test ride. And since that’s a general problem rather than a specific issue, it can take a long time to resolve.
