It was sportsmanship in a game dominated by grit and fearless intent Bhuvneshwar Kumar that differed as much as the brightness of the stroke Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The experienced Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer had every reason to be disappointed after being dismissed by the 15-year-old, but instead chose to applaud the youngster’s extraordinary performance.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s elegant tribute to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Sooryavanshi’s explosive 78 from just 26 balls propelled Rajasthan Royals (RR) to victory in Guwahati and even the opposition could not help but admire his approach. Speaking after the match, Bhuvneshwar highlighted the quality of the teenager’s batting, admitting that his batting was based on skill rather than luck.
“The way he bats – he plays proper cricket shots, not fast. For a 15-year-old, he is very mature. He deserves all the credit for the way he bats.” Bhuvneshwar said in the post-match press conference.
It was a statement that reflected not only respect, but a deep understanding of the game. For a sportsman studying Bhuvneshwar’s experience, realizing the difference between careless batting and calculated batting added weight to his definition.
Age becomes irrelevant in T20 cricket
While the cricketing world continues to marvel at Sooryavanshi’s age, Bhuvneshwar made it clear that once a player steps on the field, it’s the performance that really counts. Despite being ripped off by almost half his age, the veteran pacer maintained that T20 cricket has leveled the playing field.
“It’s a T20 game. Yes, he’s young, but he’s batting very well and very maturely. We never feel that somebody is knocking us down. If a 15-year-old can bat like that, whether he’s 25 or 15, that’s part of T20 cricket,” he explained.
His words captured the essence of modern T20 cricket, where fearless batting and quick decision-making trump experience. For Bhuvneshwar, it was not about who faced him, but how well that player executed his skills.
Sooryavanshi’s innings was a perfect example of this mindset. Rather than being overwhelmed by the opportunity or the bowlers, he bowled with clarity and confidence, taking every delivery with dignity. His ability to pick lengths early and deliver shots with precision made even seasoned bowlers look ordinary.

Sooryavanshi’s blitz leads RR to a dominant win over RCB
The teenager’s hitting wasn’t just impressive — it defined the matchup. Chasing a challenging 202, RR needed a strong start and Sooryavanshi did just that. He raced to a half-century off just 15 balls, marking his second such attempt this season and continuing his dream in IPL 2026.
His knock full of eight boundaries and seven powerful sixes set the tone for the start of the chase. Alongside Dhruv Jurel, who was unbeaten on 81 off 43 balls, he put together a breathtaking 108-run partnership off just 37 deliveries. The duo took RR to 97/1 in the power plays – their highest power play scores in IPL history.
Earlier in the match, RCB staged a remarkable recovery after being reduced to 94/6 thanks to captain Rajat Patidar’s 63 off 40 balls. Their total of 201/8 looked competitive but Sooryavanshi’s attack ensured it wasn’t enough.
RR eventually chased down the target with ease, to finish the two remaining jobs. The win extended their unbeaten run to four matches and cemented their position as one of the most dominant teams in the tournament so far.
As for Sooryavanshi, his performances have already made him one of the standout players of IPL 2026. With 200 runs in just four matches, he rose to the top of the Orange Cap standings, further underlining his impact.
