Holger Rune AND João FONSECA are coming to San Francisco! The Pairift of talented young people are the latest players appointed to compete in this year’s Laver Cup, and each will make their debut in the competition to be held at Chase Center in San Francisco from September 19-21.
Rune (Team Europe) and FONSECA (Team World) join a stellar formation that already includes Alexander Zverev AND Carlos Alcaraz for the team Europe, and Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul AND Ben Shelton for the world of the team.
Rune was named in Laver Cup in 2023 in Vancouver, but was unable to attend due to damage.
“I am really looking forward to the competition and to visit San Francisco for the first time,” said World no. 10. “It will be an excellent atmosphere, and I know talking to other players that Laver Cup is one of the most enjoyable races of the year. I can’t expect to be part of it.” The world captain of the team Andre Agassi is excited to have the talented 18-year-old, currently ranked No.65, on his side.

“João is the type of new talent that makes Laver Cup so special,” Agassi said. “He is fearless, energetic, has a big game and loves the big scene. His performance this season tells me that he is ready for this. I’m sure he will bloom in the team environment and I am eagerly waiting for him to work with him and know him better.”
Agassi is likely to end up using one of his three choices of captain in the growing Brazilian, who won his ATP maiden title in Buenos Aires in February.
Likewise for Rune, who is currently the player of the eighth rank team of Europe.
According to the Laver Cup, so the teams are selected:
The three highest ranking players from Europe and the world, based on their ranking of ATP bachelors since Monday after Roland-Garros, receive an automatic invitation to play Laver Cup. If any of these players choose not to attend, the offer becomes another high -ranked player. The remaining three seats in each team will be ‘captain’s elections’ and can be announced any time before the US Open begins. By appointing Rune and FONSECA to their teams now, Noe and Agassi are committed to using the choice of a captain on them if they do not qualify based on the rankings.
