FK Crvena Zvezda slumped to a 2-0 defeat against a clinical Lille side at the Rajko Mitić Stadium, with goals from Yusuf Yazıcı and Jonathan David securing three crucial Europa League points for the visitors.
Lille showed their European pedigree with a dominant 2-0 win over FK Crvena Zvezda in an enticing UEFA Europa League clash. The French visitors took advantage of key moments to secure their second win in the group stage.
Crvena Zvezda went into the match desperate for points, having drawn one and lost one of their opening two games. Lille, however, arrived in Belgrade with a perfect record, aiming to consolidate their first place in the group.
The early exchanges saw both teams test each other’s resolve without creating any clear-cut chances. Lille’s midfield quickly established control, dictating the pace of the game with fluid passing.
Lille’s persistence paid off in the 34th minute. Yusuf Yazıcı found space in the box, unleashing a powerful shot that beat the Crvena Zvezda goalkeeper at his near post. This first goal gave the visitors a deserved lead.
The goal spurred Crvena Zvezda into action, but their attempts to equalize lacked precision. Lille’s defense remained organised, thwarting any serious threats before the half-time whistle.
At the break, Crvena Zvezda faced the challenge of breaking down a resilient Lille defence. Coach Barak Bakhar probably urged his team to increase their intensity and find more direct routes to goal.
The second half began with renewed vigor from the home team, moving up the pitch. However, Lille remained calm, soaking up the pressure and looking for opportunities on the counter-attack.
Crvena Zvezda’s frustration began to show when MiloÅ¡ Degenek was shown a yellow card in the 58th minute for a rash tackle. This interruption further disrupted the rhythm of the home team.
Lille secured their victory in the 71st minute through Jonathan David. The striker expertly guided a low cross from the right, doubling Lille’s lead and silencing the home crowd.
Lille showed their efficiency, registering 15 shots with 7 on target compared to Zvezda’s 8, only 2 of which tested the goalkeeper. The visitors also dominated possession with 55%, reflecting their control over the game.
This defeat leaves Crvena Zvezda with a tough road to the UEFA Europa League group stage. Lille, on the other hand, continued their impressive start, positioning themselves firmly for progression.
