FIM JuniorGP: How America’s Kids Do It in Motherland Aragon – Rodracing World Magazine

From the press release issued by MMR Racing:

A bittersweet weekend for American Rosie Moore at the Junior World Championships

The Rosi Moor FIM JuniorGP World Championship Moto2 weekend got off to a good start at Motorland Aragon in Spain. The first qualifying session ended with Rossi in third place, guaranteeing him a place in Q2; Then he was assigned the sixth, he got the sixth place on the grid. The opening laps of Sunday’s Race 1 saw Rossi run a pace that gave him confidence on the bike, and more importantly Rossi understood the characteristics of the Pirelli tires he will be using throughout the weekend.

The race was very exciting and Rossi managed the tires well, giving him a chance to win the battle for eighth place, which Rossi lost by only 0.055 seconds.

Race 2 Rossi made a great start and at the first corner he was already in fourth place. After two more corners, Mattia passed Cassaday and moved into third place. After a very tight first lap, Rossi was still in sixth place and kept up the pace. Some of the riders in front of him were going fast, but Rossi decided to focus on protecting his tires in the first half and try to use his advantage until the end of the race. In fact, by the eighth lap, Rossi was in seventh place and running a full second off his pace at the start. Unfortunately, on lap 10 in turn 12, Rossi was forced to brake early to avoid a rider with an old tyre, contact was inevitable and both riders crashed into the gravel, luckily without serious injury.

(Rossi finished the weekend 9th in Race 1 and DNF in Race 2.)

Rossi Moor:Saturday was a very difficult day as it rained all day and I had to adapt to the bike in a short time in wet conditions, but my position on the grid gave me a lot of confidence for Sunday’s race. I think I did well in the 1st race as it was my first official race against very strong opponents and I’m very happy with my 9th place finish. In the 2nd race I had a good start and then I tried to find the pace to save the tires and fight for the podium to get to the end of the race. Unfortunately, in the 10th round of the 12th round, my opponent hit his brain much earlier than I expected and we both fell. I was very sad that the stage was about to be reached. But I want to congratulate my MMR teammate Mattia (Volpi) for finishing fourth.

Massimiliano Morlacci (MMR Group Manager) I am very happy with Rossi who is very fast despite his lack of experience. I’m sorry he crashed in Race 2 because he could have really fought for the podium. However, we will continue to work together in Valencia.

More from the AGR Racing Team:

Moto2 driver Max ThothIn the United States, he was left with a choice of tires and had to sit at P18 on the grid. (Finished 16th in Race 1 and 14th in Race 2.)

American Max Toth (27) finished 16th and 14th in the two Moto2 races in Aragon.

“Overall it was a great day. I surprised myself in the first session because I have never taken this bike out in the rain. It was great to be close to the front and go straight into Q2, especially after the struggles we’ve been through and four months off the bike (due to injury). Thoth said. “In qualifying we simply made a wrong tire choice, but I got it straight, I’ve got more confidence and I’m happy. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a smile on my face this long at a race weekend.”

After the competition Thoth Aragon was pleased with his performance and finished 14th in Race 2 with two championship points.

“The pace we went after the midway point was great compared to the front guys who were missing the jump at the start.” Thoth said. I had to keep a consistent pace which eventually brought me back to the dead end and I couldn’t find my rhythm at first, but it got me to where I was at the points.

“We have to be happy because this is one of the best races we’ve had all year and I think we have to look at it as ‘this is how we start, not in the middle of the year’. So, it’s not a bad way to come back after five months of racing. It was physically very difficult, but as good as it can be for Valencia.” We focus on continuing to optimize to get in shape.
