Figueroa – Fulton 2 Rematch this Saturday

The WBC Featherweight Champion, Brandon Figueroa (25-1-1, 19 COs) -Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Figueroa against Fulton 2 is on the bottom map of David Banavidez against David Morrell and will be displayed directly on PBC Prime video Ppv. The opportunity sold for $ 79.95.

Weight class change

The rematch will be four pounds heavier than the first fight at 122, and Figueroa looks stronger since it moved up to 126 in 2022 after its loss against Fulton. In three fights Figueroa had at featherweight, he dominated these fighters:

– Jessie Magdaleno – I 9
-Mark Magayo-UR 12: scores 117-109, 117-109 and 118-108
– Carlos Castro: TKO 6

Fulton is a pure boxer and will try every trick in the book to defeat Figueroa. We will probably climb a lot, move and see Jabs. He has a Mayweather-esque Style about him and use many technical things to compensate for his lack of strength.

Stephen has no power, and his only way to defeat Figueroa is according to decision. Given how good Brandon has looked like since his transition to featherweight, it is a difficult question for Fulton to win on Saturday, apart from being lucky with the standings.

Four years ago, on November 27, 2021, Fulton (30) beat Figueroa and beat him with a 12-round majority decision in Las Vegas on Super Bantamweight. The fight could have gone anyway, but the judges love Fulton’s boxing skills better than Figueroa’s more aggressive, more difficult bumps.

A changed Fulton?

Many have changed since then. Fulton is visibly aged, was knocked out on July 25, 2023 in eight unilateral rounds by Naoya Inoue and barely scrapped with a 10-round decision on Carlos Castrol in his last fight on September 14, 2024.

Castro dropped Fulton in the fifth round and repeatedly hurt him. He held and moved to escape to strike out. The judges were generous to Fulton to give him victory, because Castro looked like he had earned victory.

Two years earlier, Castro was knocked out by Brandon Figueroa on July 9, 2022. Styles make fights, but it does mean something when Fulton struggles against this level of an opponent against Castro after a controversial decision after being beaten a year before brutally by inoue.

Fulton’s knockout loss to Inoue may have permanently reduced his punch resistance, which made him vulnerable to being injured. This is a terrible news for him who stands up against a powerman like Figueroa, who hits harder than Castro, and not on Saturday in the second half of the fight will get tired.

This means that Fulton has to stay on his bike all night and keep as often as possible to neutralize Figueroa’s offense. This can be an ugly struggle because Fulton does not have the offensive skills to stay in the bag against Figueroa without being knocked out.

I see Figueroa as too strong, young and aggressive for what is about Fulton in his career. I don’t see a knockout, because Fulton will use his Mayweather-Esque tricks to survive, but he will not win with the negative, safety-first style. This battle can fall asleep fans because Fulton will run from the opening bell and try not to be knocked out.
