Delhi Capitals (DC) made a remarkable comeback to defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) By six wickets in the 5th match Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Ekana Cricket Stadium. Chasing a modest target of 142, DC overcame a shaky start thanks to brilliant batting. Samir Rizvi and a collaboration with Tristan Stubbs.
Despite its combat contributions, LSG is below par overall
After being put into bat by the DC captain Akhar PatelLSG struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for 141 in 18.4 overs. Mitchell Marsh He led the scoring with a steady 35 off 28 balls, hitting a couple of boundaries and three sixes.
However, wickets fell at regular intervals and prevented LSG from capitalizing on the starts. Skipper Rishabh pants but he could not influence on the top Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram could not turn his starts into a significant score.
Delayed push Abdul SamadA 25-ball 36 helped LSG cross the 140-run mark. Contributions from the lower order added some valuable runs, but the total still looked a bit poor on a decent batting surface.
DC’s bowling unit put in a collective effort Good luck and T Natarajan leading the charge with three wickets each. Kuldeep Yadav Axar Patel also scored a goal, making it two important goals.
Mohammed Shami strikes early as DC collapses in the power play
The chase got off to a disastrous start for DC Muhammad Shami He hit the first ball and missed it KL Rahul for the golden duck. It triggered a collapse with an early bounce Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Ranaand Akhar Patel it’s also cheap.
At one stage DC were reeling at 26/4 in just 4.3 overs, LSG bowlers applying relentless pressure. Prince Yadav and Mohsen Khan He provided crucial support to Shami by tightening the screws during the powerplay.
Sameer Rizvi helps Delhi Capitals land a deal
Just when LSG appeared to be in full control, Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs put together a match-winning partnership that changed the momentum dramatically. Combining aggression with composure, Rizvi hit a sensational 70 off 47 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes.
Stubbs completed it brilliantly with a well-paced 39 off 32 deliveries and ensured DC continued to rebuild without taking unnecessary risks. Their 50-plus stand not only stabilized the innings, but also put the Capitals firmly back in the contest.
As the partnership grew, the pressure shifted to the LSG bowlers, who struggled to find breakthroughs in the middle innings. The duo’s calculated approach kept the required run rate under control.
With some hard work by Rizvi and Stubbs, DC comfortably chased down the target at 145/4 in 17.1 overs. Despite the early scare, the Capitals showed solidity and depth in their batting lineup to secure a convincing victory.
Early breakthroughs for LSG gave hope, but failure to break the Rizvi-Stubbs partnership proved costly. Apart from the initial burst, their bowlers could not sustain the pressure in the later stages.
