The Detroit Tigers were one of the most surprising teams of the 2024 season, finishing with an 86-76 record.
After finishing second in the American League Central, the Tigers advanced to the postseason for the first time since 2014 via a wild-card berth.
They then continued to surprise by sweeping the Houston Astros in the wild-card round.
Now that the Tigers have gotten a taste of postseason baseball, they made a big acquisition this offseason, signing infielder Gleyber Torres to a one-year contract.
The Tigers have signed two-time All-Star INF Gleyber Torres to a one-year contract through the 2025 season.

Please don’t be that clown Javier Baez I haven’t paid attention to Tigers baseball since Prince Fielder and I hope this was a good pickup

Congratulations! @tigers: about getting a player who does really well for 1/4 of the season and nothing for the rest.

Fans had mixed reactions to the addition of Torres, which makes sense for Tigers fans after the signing of Javier Baez.
The Tigers previously signed Baez to a hefty contract after he looked great with the Chicago Cubs, only for his production to plummet in Detroit.
Torres debuted with the New York Yankees in 2018 and played all seven seasons of his career with them.
In an up-and-down 2024 season, Torres played 154 games and batted .257 with 15 home runs, 63 RBI and a .709 OPS.
The Tigers haven’t won the AL Central title since 2014, which was also the last year they made the postseason until 2024.
Although the Tigers lost to the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Division Series, they appear willing to spend money to upgrade their 2025 roster.
The Tigers will be a team to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
