Fans are disappointed with David Banavidez’s choice of opponent, Anthony Yarde, for his defense of his WBC Light Heavyweight title in November in Saudi Arabia.
People hoped ‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez (30-0, 24 COs) would fight against the big puncher, WBO-Tussent time champion Callum Smith.
Yarde: A safer choice?
The choice of Yarde (27-3, 24 COs) is a major collapse for fans, who consider it a case of benavidez that chooses a safer, less risky opponent who does not pose the same danger as Callum.
Morrell Fight’s impact on benavidez
The supporters who saw Benavidez’s last battle against David Morrell Note that he took a lot of punishment last February. Although Benavidez won the battle with a unanimous 12 -round decision, the younger, stronger Morrell landed very large shots on him.
At the end of the fight, Banavidez’s face showed that he was in a grueling game. His face looked like Morrell had stepped on him all night with a few Kodiall work boots. You can see that Morrell would win in a re -broadcast with some minor adjustments in throwing fast combinations and starting with its pressure faster. The Cuban Morrell waited for second place to open with his offense, and then he was too far behind to make up for lost land.
The choice of Yarde as his opponent is a clear sign that benavidez does not want to be placed by another physical torture session such as the one he endured against Morrell. Yarde is a good fighter at British level, but when he tried to fight fighters of world -class fighters, he welcomed Betterur Betterbiev and Sergey Kovalev in the knockout loss.
Yarde’s rebuilding and opponents
Yarde’s promoters have rebuilt him through a four-match since his knockout loss against Betterbiev in 2023. He beat four mostly lower level fighters of which few fans have ever heard. The only recognizable name under the gang of four was the capable Lyndon Arthur, but he was long in the tooth and was knocked out by Yarde in 2021. It was an unnecessary trilogy they had last April.
