Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela (14-2, 9 costs), WBA Light Welterweight, says he thinks he’ll have to mix his game a bit by winning a fight against Gary Antuannel Russell (17-1, 17 COs) this Saturday night in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
New York. This is not a fight where Rayo can depend on the win by being as defensive as in his collision against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz last year. Russell is too good for Valenzuela to use one strategy.
Rayo, 25, says he would like to fight against Shakur Stevenson if he overcomes. He feels that it would be a good test for him because he is hard to hit. He notes that Shakur is having trouble getting opponents, but he is willing to fight against him. However, Stevenson will have to move up to 140, and he may not be prepared to do so. Shakur’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is likely to reject the idea that he is fighting against Rayo because it is too risky.
