Indian Super 8 Schedule: Dates and Venues

India will begin their Super 8 campaign against South Africa on Sunday (February 22) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The clash promises to be a high-intensity encounter as South Africa finished second in the previous edition.

The team will then travel south to Chennai to face Zimbabwe at the historic MA Chidambaram Stadium on February 26. India will conclude their Super 8 group matches against West Indies at the famous Eden Gardens on March 1.

Only the top two teams from each Super 8 group will advance to the semi-finals, making every match critical.

How did India secure the Super 8?

India qualified for the Super 8 stage with their dominant performance in Group A. Their campaign was highlighted by a 61-run win over arch-rivals Pakistan in Colombo on 15 February.

Zimbabwe’s Super 8 qualification came in dramatic circumstances. The group match against Ireland in Pallekele was interrupted by rain and it cost an important point to eliminate both Ireland and double champions Australia.

The Chevrons’ advancement adds an unexpected twist to the tournament story, marking their first appearance at the Super 8 stage. Australia’s early exit has been one of the biggest shocks of the competition so far.

Super 8 format explained

The Super 8 stage consists of two groups of four teams each. India are in Group 1 with South Africa, West Indies and Zimbabwe. The second group includes England, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Each team will play three games against the other sides of their group once in this stage. Importantly, no points from the group stage are carried over. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on March 4 and 5, while the grand final is scheduled for March 8.

Challenges await India in the Super 8

Although India enter the Super 8s on a 10-match T20 World Cup winning streak – a tournament record – the road ahead is far from straightforward. South Africa’s balanced line-up poses a major challenge, while West Indies have displayed explosive batting throughout the tournament.

Zimbabwe could also prove tough opponents, buoyed by lackluster spirit and speed.
