Marquez’s victory at the Aragon Grand Prix in September, his first since 2021, will live forever in MotoGP history. For 2025, they welcome a new face to the team in Fermin Aldegarh.
But what is the full story behind Gresini? MotoGP And the main part of motorcycle racing? MotoGP News has all the details.
Gresini MotoGP team name
Gresini are simply known as Gresini Racing. Unlike many other teams on the MotoGP grid, they do not have a title sponsor.
Previous names include Fortuna Honda Gresini (1997-98, 2002), Telefónica Movistar Honda (2003-04), San Carlo Honda Gresini (2008-12) and Aprilia Racing Team Gresini (2014-21).
Gresini founding year
Fausto Gresini founded the team that bears his name in 1997. The late Italian won two world titles in the 125cc season.
Gresini entered the 500cc class in its first two years before three seasons off. But they have featured in every campaign since the 2002 MotoGP rebrand.
Gresini’s current MotoGP riders
Gresini will line up Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguerre for 2025. Marquez Jr. signed a new two-year contract last season.
Aldeguer, meanwhile, has stepped up to the top spot after finishing fifth in Moto2 last season as a replacement for older brother Marquez. Following their split with Pramac, Ducati placed him at Gresini.
Gresini’s current team manager and leadership hierarchy
Nadia Padovani, who is married to Gresini, is the team’s owner and team principal. Michelle Massini will work under her as team manager.
They don’t have a technical director like some of their MotoGP competitors. Fausto’s son Luca Grassini leads the Moto2 team.
Gresini are a satellite team of Ducati.
Gresini is one of six satellite teams on the MotoGP grid, along with VR46, Tech3, Trackhouse, Pramac and LCR. The VR46 joins them in the Ducati stable.
Before starting their relationship with Ducati in 2022, they were aligned with Aprilia (2014-2021) and Honda (2002-2013). Aprilia split with Gresini to form their own fully capable production team.
Which bike will Gresini field in the 2025 MotoGP season?
Gresini duo Marquez and Aldeguer will compete in 2025 on the annual Desmosedici GP24 bikes. VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio will have the luxury of 2025 Ducati machinery.
Gresini MotoGP drivers’ championships
Gresini has not won any drivers’ championships at MotoGP level. However, they have come close on several occasions.
Sete Gibernau finished second to Valentino Rossi in 2003 and 2004, while Marco Melandri was beaten by Doctor in 2005. Gresini returned to the championship podium in 2022 with Ine Bastianini’s third place finish, a feat Marc Marquez repeated last year.
Gresini MotoGP teams champions
Similarly, Gresini did not taste glory at the club level. Gibernau teamed up with Colin Edwards to finish second in 2004, but that remains their best showing.
They finished just seven points clear of Yamaha that year, a pitiful margin. Marquez made it third in the final season, but they were unable to compete with the Ducati factory team, who had more than 300 laps.
According to Gresini factory
Gresini is based in Fenza, Italy, which is also home to the Racing Bulls Formula 1 team. They opened their headquarters in early 2015.
Both the racing and management branches operate in a facility 31 miles from Ducati’s base in Bologna. The amazing area is 2,000 square meters.
