Everton have announced the signing of young midfielder Emma Watson on loan from Manchester United for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Watson moves to Merseyside following her comeback from an ACL injury which saw her miss the entirety of her debut season with United. The midfielder also had to wait for her debut after a minor problem at the start of this campaign, but coincidentally came against her new side as the side defeated Everton 2-0 in the group stage of the Subway Women’s League Cup.
The 18-year-old has had to be patient, finding it difficult to earn senior minutes, but scored a first goal in the closing stages of the calendar year against Newcastle United in the Championship.
Despite his age, Watson has already managed to break into the Scotland squad. The midfielder featured in the matches against Hungary and Finland during the UEFA Euro 2025 qualifiers, coming off the bench on all four occasions. Watson has made eight appearances for Scotland since making his debut in March 2023.
The Toffees have secured the signing of the sensational prospect in what has already been a bumpy transfer window for the Merseyside club. Brian Sorensen’s side have welcomed Kelly Gago and Martina Fernandez to their ranks, with reports suggesting Hayley Ladd is also set for a move.
Speaking to Everton’s official website upon his arrival, Watson expressed his excitement at joining the club: “I definitely think it’s a place that will suit me a lot and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Everton are back in action this weekend as they host Tottenham Hotspur in a WSL Adobe Women’s FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Walton Hall Park.
