Errol Spence Jr. didn’t return, but the talk did

Errol Spence Jr. has not announced a comeback. This part remains unchanged. But his name floats back into conversations again, quietly and mostly by other people.

Spence has not fought since July 2023, when he was stopped by Terence Crawford in their highly anticipated welterweight undisputed fight. The loss was decisive. Since then, there has been no official retirement and no fixed timetable. Just time. And silence.

Now speculation has turned to a possible return at 154 pounds. The most mentioned opponent is Tim Tszyu. Nothing is signed. Nothing is confirmed. But the idea is being floated in boxing circles, especially with Tszyu back active and Spence widely expected to drop the welterweight cut if he returns at all.

The rumor gained traction this week after Paulie Malignaggi mentioned that she had heard Tszyu-Spence speak while he was in Australia. Coach Robert Garcia later said he heard the same thing. Neither claimed direct knowledge. None of the proposed talks have progressed. It was information shared in passing, the kind that often circulates long before reality catches up.

From a business point of view, the pairing is obvious. Tszyu needs meaningful fights as he rebuilds. Spence needs something credible without immediately stepping back into the deep end. A super welterweight bout avoids old weight concerns and keeps both names relevant under the Premier Boxing Champions banner.

Yet absence matters. So are kilometers. Until Spence confirms a camp, a date or even intent, everything else remains theoretical.

For now it’s just that. Talk. Famous talks. Boxing has heard this before. This is the part that people usually miss. Boxing talk moves quickly when a familiar name is gone for a while. Spence has earned the right to choose his next move, but time keeps running out. Until he agrees to a fight and shows he’s coming back, the same rumors will continue to circulate without anything really changing.
