Erling Haaland ends three-game drought with Southampton’s first goal

Erling Haaland opened the scoring for Manchester City against Southampton on Saturday to end their recent goal drought.

Before Saturday afternoon’s clash with the newly promoted side, the Norwegian striker had scored 13 goals in 12 games for the reigning Premier League champions. His previous ten league efforts had all come in vital games, scoring a hat-trick against West Ham in August and a powerful strike against title-chasing Arsenal in September.

However, Haaland failed to find the back of the net in his last three games cityfailed to score against Newcastle United, Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

His first La Liga goal since September finally came on Saturday, scoring in the first five minutes to do the damage from Southampton he hopes to get his first win of the campaign.

It was an interesting strike Haalandwho managed to get his foot on the ball while colliding with Jan Bednarek. City’s ability to work the ball down the left of the pitch opened up an opportunity for Matheus Nunes to find the sensational striker, who fired his effort past Aaron Ramsdale between the posts.

The strike was Haaland’s 14th of the campaign and 11th in the league. The City striker could win a third consecutive Golden Boot if he continues his excellent goal-scoring form this season.
