Erik ten Hag has admitted that Manchester United have a real problem when it comes to scoring goals.
The Red Devils saw a disappointing start to their European campaign after that fell short of victory against Eredivisie side Twente on Wednesday night. Although they ended up being the strongest team throughout, united struggled to capitalize on chances in front of goal.
No team has missed more chances in the Premier League this season than United’s 17 – Aston Villa, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are tied for second with 12 – and Ten Hag admitted his side’s attacking shortcomings are becoming becoming a real problem.
“It’s very difficult for us to score, that has to improve,” he said Ziggo Sports. “We create many chances, but it is difficult for us to score.
“If you lose at the top, you always have a problem, no matter which coach. The board knows that we are in the process and that we are building. Now it is much calmer. If we are a few months further, I think we can really build a good team.”
Contributing to the pressure on Ten Hag’s shoulders has been the criticism of several unitedEx-players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Dutchman insists he is not concerned about the comments.
“I’m used to it,” he said. “That was the case with Ajax and it’s the case here. They are clubs that are always in the spotlight. Everyone has an opinion about it. You have to face it and not let it distract you – keep working stoically.”
United are back in action on Sunday when they host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. His next Europa League The match will continue on Thursday against Porto.
