Former England captain Eoin Morgan has given the Indian team his highest praise for their dominance in Tests over the past decade. The World Cup-winning captain praised the Rohit Sharma-led side for their resounding victory over Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test.
The Test looked set to end in a draw due to rain and a damp pitch. Only 35 overs were bowled on the first day of the Test, with no deliveries on the second and third days. However, the Indian team still managed to defeat Bangladesh by seven wickets and sweep the two-match series.
After bowling out Bangladesh for 233 runs, India came out all guns blazing with the bat. They went on to score the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 in Tests and declared their innings at 285/9. In the second innings, Bangladesh scored only 146 runs and India chased down the required 95 runs very comfortably.
A 2-0 win over Bangladesh extended India’s lead in Tests at home. The series win was India’s 18th in a row at home. India have not lost a Test series at home since 2012 when they lost 2-1 against England. They have lost just 4 Tests at home during this period.
One of the greatest in his own terms: Eoin Morgan:
Eoin Morgan hailed the Indian team as “one of the greatest in their terms”. He also said that while some of the most famous sides in the history of cricket like England have enjoyed huge home advantage, no team has been able to achieve home advantage like India.
Eoin Morgan says they will ask Australia a lot of questions if India repeat the brand of cricket they played in Kanpur. India is scheduled to visit Australia in November for a five-match Test series.
“If they go to Australia and play like that, a big part of this series will be in the balance of Nathan Lyon’s fitness and how they play. If they have that mindset to play Nathan Lyon like that, it’s asking a lot of questions for Australia,” Eoin Morgan PTI told to
“They have to be considered one of the greatest in their field. What makes them so good is their hunger and desire to win. Their attitude towards what they never take for granted.
“We come from countries with huge home advantage, but our track record over generations is not as good as the Indians,” added Eoin Morgan.
Before visiting Australia, India will host New Zealand for a three-match series. India will seal their passage to the World Test Championship final if they manage to sweep the series against New Zealand.
