The historic event returns this weekend after being postponed in February due to flooding
As the track season draws to a close, the cross country season is just around the corner, with the postponed Saucony English National Cross Country Championships taking place this weekend on September 14th.
Originally scheduled for February 24 at Weston Park in Shropshire, The 2024 championship was postponed due to heavy rain that flooded the field.
It was only the third time in the event’s 148-year history that it has been called off, with the previous cancellations occurring during the world wars and the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021.

The decision to postpone was made just a day before the start of the race, with organizers the English Cross Country Association saying “the conditions were impossible to park”.
The event remains at Weston Park, although the weather promises a slightly different cross-country experience than most are used to. Instead of the usual wet and muddy ground, expect dry conditions and temperatures around 18°C.
