RB Leipzig’s 25-year-old striker Giovanna Hoffmann and Eintracht Frankfurt’s 21-year-old midfielder Lisanne Grawe are in the German national team for the first time. Sara Dabritz also returns from an ankle injury.

This is also the first camp for the German national team since Alexandra Popp announced her retirement from international football. Bibiane Schulze Solano, who is recovering from an ACL injury, and Kathrin Hendrich are the other notable absentees.

Lineup predicted Germany vs England (4-4-2): Berger; Linder, Kleinherne, Doorsoun-Khajeh, Rauch; Gwinn, Nusken, Minge, Buhl; Brand, Hoffmann.

It’s just over two years since these two teams met in the UEFA Women’s European Championship final and a lot has changed in that time.

Germany are working with a new coach, Christian Wuck, who will take charge of their first game on Friday. England, on the other hand, have had a series of mixed performances. They struggled at the start of the year in the Nations League but turned things around in the summer to qualify for next year’s Euros.

Although the Lionesses are at home at Wembley, Germany are in a strong position after securing a bronze medal at the Olympics in August. There will likely be little to separate the two teams.

Prediction: England 2-2 Germany
