
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has officially announced the squad of 15 players 2026 ICC U19 Men’s World CupWith the rising star of Somerset Thomas Rew called captain. In the tournament, which will be hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia, England’s “Young Lions” will try to regain the trophy they last won in 1998.
Thomas Rew takes the helm
Rew, a prolific wicketkeeper-batsman, was a standout performer in the youth circuit and grabbed headlines earlier this year with a record-breaking 73-ball century against India U19s. Having already gained experience with the England Lions, Rew’s leadership is key to a squad full of county experience.
He will be fully supported by Nottinghamshire Farhan Ahmedappointed vice-captain. Ahmed, the younger brother of the England international Rehan Ahmedrecently led the side during the youth ODI series in the West Indies.
Fresh faces and proven talent
The squad features some local names and some exciting new prospects. Leicestershire left arm spinner Ali Farooq second XI earns his first call-up to the national youth team after impressive performances in the championship. Other notable additions include Surrey Ralphie Albert and Alex Frenchboth have already made their professional debuts in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Group C and tournament prediction
England are in Group C along with the hosts Zimbabwe, Pakistanand Scotland. They are scheduled to play all their group stage games at Takashinga Sports Club in Harare. The tournament officially starts on January 15, 2026, with the final scheduled to be held on February 6 at the historic Harare Sports Club.
