Holger Rune’s Stockholm’s semi-final – and its 2025 season – came to a devastating end today.
The top-seeded Runa suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon and was forced to retire while leading Hugo Humbert 6-4, 2-2 in today’s opening semifinal.

It’s a heartbreaking injury for Rune, who broke down in tears afterwards and is likely to miss three to six months. It means the former Paris Indoors champion is likely to miss the 2026 Australian Open in January.
“It’s terrible. There’s no doubt. It’s a rupture of the Achilles tendon,” Aneke, Rune’s mother, wrote in a text to TV 2 Sport. “He’s out for three to six months, the doctors say. Holger is crying.”
No one wanted the end 😔

“I think I broke it,” an emotional Rune told the coach, who came onto the court to help the Dane.
The 22-year-old Rune was finding his form reaching the quarter-finals or better in four of his last five tournaments before today’s injury.

Meanwhile, the left-handed Humbert advanced to tomorrow’s final in Stockholm against one of their second. Casper Ruud or with the third seed Denis Shapovalov.
“It’s a shame about Rune and I want him back soon,” Humbert said afterwards. “He played better than me and I don’t want to talk too much about the final. It wasn’t the way it should have been.”
