Clara Tauson He was a woman on a mission on Tuesday in Montreal. Two days after scoring her second Top-5th win over IgA Swiatek, she withdrew her fourth-top-10 triumph of the season by beating Australian champion Open Madison Keys, 6-1, 6-4.
It was an emotional victory for 22-year-old Dane, who told the crowd that she was devoting victory to her grandfather, who recently crossed the road.
“I’m still in shock,” she said, getting into tears. “Two days ago my grandfather, unfortunately, passed away. I really wanted to win for her today.
“I was told the day after I beat Iga, yesterday, so I really wanted to go out and show my best tennis to him, and I hope he is watching.”
Tauson will face either Naomi Osaka or Elina Svitolina in the semifinals.
It was out of the speedy gates against the sixth seed keys, turning two service breaks to seek the opening set in under 30 minutes. Tauson took a break in the first match of Set Two Hold up, saving a resting point while serving at 4-3 before closing the match within an hour and 13 minutes.
Tauson saved the three points of rest she faced and won each of her nine service games to improve in 32-15 a season. She reaches her seventh semi -final of the WTA career, all of which have come to difficult courts.
With the Tauson victory it depends on a high career no.15 in the live rankings.
