PAYANIA (GRE, February 28). The second best pole vaulter ever appeared in the Greek Championship. A packed house in the Paiania district of Athens (2500 spectators) saw Emmanuel Karalis get a huge 617 WL and NR. Only Mondo Duplantis jumped higher. He started with 570 and 590 in the first and then a first national record 607 in the opener, followed by a superb 617 in the second attempt and one solid attempt at the height of WR 631. He then attempted 631 once more, but didn’t quite make it and went last. “I don’t know what’s going on guys. I’m dreaming, don’t wake me up. I am very happy. I managed to fulfill one of my dreams here in Payania, the home of athletics. I am happy. All the people that I love came, they were here and… yeah, right now I can’t believe what happened because I believe what happened in the next team. I’m a lot, sometimes more than me, I didn’t jump (6.31 m) because I was tired, but I set a world record, so I can’t imagine at all that I surpassed Sergey Bubka and Renaud Lavillenie. Cypriot sprint talent Antonios Katsantonis won the 60m as a guest with a speed of 6.65 NJR. Oksana Koreneva was the best in the triple jump with an indoor PB of 13.86. 5000m walk Hristina Papadopoulou 21:37.79 indoor PB.
