The Kenyan distance runner is facing a possible ban for possession/use of banned substances
Anyango Achole, the second-fastest 10-kilometer runner in history, has been suspended for a doping violation.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced Anyango’s suspension for the presence/use of a banned substance (testosterone and EPO).
It will remain in place until his case is resolved, and he faces a four-year ban if convicted.

The 24-year-old was widely regarded as a promising talent for Kenya, gaining attention after her victory at the 2023 Discovery Kenya Cross Country Championships.
The African U20 Championship 3000m silver medalist also came close to breaking the 10km world record in January this year. He set the second-fastest time ever in Valencia, Spain, with a time of 28:57, bettering Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw’s world record of 29:14.

She finished second behind compatriot Agnes Ngetić, who won the race with a better time of 28:46. They are the only two women in history to run under 29 minutes for 10km.
Anyango again finished behind Ngetich at the Kenya cross-country trials in March this year, securing his selection for the 2024 World Championships in Serbia, where he finished fourth individually and contributed to Kenya’s team gold.
Last season, he also finished second in the BAA 5km in Boston and the TCS World 10km road race in Bengaluru, India.
Despite these achievements, Anyango missed out on a place in the Kenyan team for the Paris Olympics after finishing sixth in the 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic, where he clocked a personal best of 30:06.43.
