Ellie Scotney will return to the site of her best career outing to date.
The Ring 122-pound champion and a unified IBF/WBO title clash against New Zealand’s Mea Motu. Their championship clash will take place on the October 26 Jack Catterall-Regis Prograis DAZN show from AO Arena in Manchester, England.
Scotney (9-0, 0 KOs) will attempt her third overall defense of the IBF belt. This will be her first as RING and unified champion since her April 13 decision over Segolene Lefebvre. In their battle of unbeaten titles, Scotney won by scores of 99-91, 97-93 and 96-94 at AO Arena.
Motu (19-0, 7 KOs) will enter her first career title fight in what marks her British debut. The mandatory IBF challenger from Auckland has fought just once outside of New Zealand – a November 2022 victory over Nastaran Fathi (then 7-0) in Dubai.
Boxing News’ Declan Taylor was first to report that Matchroom Boxing had won a purse hearing to secure the rights to the bout.
Mexico’s Yamileth Mercado (24-3, 5 KOs) is the long reigning WBC titlist. Argentina’s Nazarena Romero (14-0-2, 8 KOs) recently won the WBA title. Matchroom is eager to host a tournament to produce one fully unified junior featherweight champion.
Scotney is eager to collect all the belts, but is keen to reach the goal sooner rather than later. A journey to featherweight is imminent for the 26-year-old from Catford, London native.
