The British runner clocks 9:07.39 to win by 14 seconds at the Sound Running Track Festival. The only British woman ever to run faster is Lizzie Bird, 9:04.25.
It’s been 18 years since the women’s 3000m steeplechase made its Olympic debut, and in that time the British record has continued to decline. Lizzie Bird currently holds the best time of 9:04.35, but Elise Turner closed that mark on Saturday when she clocked 9:07.39.
Turner, 25, scored a big win at the Sound Running Track Festival in Los Angeles when he smashed his own PB by seven seconds. In this form, he is a contender for European Championship medals this summer.

During his improvement in recent years, Turner has enjoyed a spell in the United States and is coached by British steeplechase record holder Helen Clitheroe.
Also at the Sound Running Track Festival, Josh Kerr broke 1:45.00 for the first time in the 800m with a PB of 1:44.60 as he finished in 1:44.74 ahead of fellow Scot and former world 1500m champion Jake Wightman.

The two men finished third and fourth in the high-profile race, though Brandon Miller of the United States won in 1:44.26.
Another British endurance runner this weekend is Megan Keith, who clocked 14:54.92 in Brussels in her first race since last year’s world championships in Tokyo. Laura Muir was a few seconds behind in 15:07.02.
