Coach Stephen Edwards says Edgar Berlanga will not fight Caleb plant because he is in a position where he can choose who he wants to fight. He wants Jaime Munguia because he will stand right in front of him, and he is damaged by the bad knockout he suffered in his last fight against Bruno Surace.

Edwards says Berlanga (23-1, 18 COs) does not want to plant (23-2, 14 COs) because he would use him boxing and Feints, and he is a bad style match for him.

He feels that the big $ 10 million payday that Berlanga received in his fight against Canelo Alvarez has put him in a position where he can choose who he wants to fight. The reason why Berlanga is “privileged” is that he has a big fanbase in New York with Puerto Rican Americans identifying with him. Edgar is not from the island, but he plays to the corner and carries their flag for his fights. He likes to be American, but sees himself as Puerto Rican.
Spoiled fighter?
‘He (Munguia) immediately comes to you and can probably be damaged from that knockout (against Bruno Surace on December 14 last year). It was a bad knockout. Berlanga wants Munguia for three reasons:

Berlanga is what is being considered a spoiled fighter. Berlanga does not want to return to receiving the kind of wallets he received when fighting like Padraig McCrory, Jason Quigley and Roamer Alexis Angulo.

Now he does this again by sitting out of the ring for a year to wait until he gets a big payday against Canelo. Once these guys get a taste of the big dough, they no longer compete as before. They are just looking for specific major payday fights.
You will not see that they are fighting regular contenders because the money is not there, and they can lose. You can’t place Berlanga with top -super -middle weights like Plant, Christian Mbilli, Diego Pachecho or Osleys Iglesias because he will be beaten again. His career will be over if he moves to 175, where he has to fight. There are no big pay days for him or easy marks like Mungiaa. There are only murderers like David Banavidez, David Morrell, Dmitri Biscvol and Artur Bererbiev who would send him to defeat.
“He never won a world title,” Edwards said of Berlanga. ‘The man got $ 9 million ($ 10 million to fight Canelo Alvarez). That’s a lot of money. It’s a lot more money than fighters better than Edgar Berlanga made in one night. ‘
Shame Canelo because he chose to fight Berlanga in the first place because he knows he didn’t earn a world title. His two best wins were against Jason Quigley and Padraig McCrory. It’s fewer guys. White boy demands
“Edgar Berlanga got a lot of money to fight against Canelo, and he lost every round,” Stephen said. “I thought he fought well, but he lost at least 10 or 11 rounds, and he never won a world title. Berlanga focuses on money. This is the true reason why he is more interested in the fight against Jaime Munguia, Canelo and Jermall Charlo rather than planting. He can make more money to fight against the guys than he can plant, because the fans will buy the opportunities on PPV.
Munguia would have many Mexican Americans eager to order a fight involving him and Berlanga. It does not matter that Munguia is a marginal fighter who has carefully driven his entire career through his promoters.
Mexican fans still want to see him fight against Berlanga because they would see it as a good fight. Berlanga’s fans in the East Coast would like to see the game, and they wouldn’t mind never beating a good fighter in his career. They do not care or understand that his resume is filled with travelers.
