Boxing analyst Shawn Porter rejects Edgar Berlanga as a “One-notes fighter” On the way to his WBC Super Middleweight Title Eliminator vs. Hamzah Sheeraz on July 12 Dazn ppv. Porter picks the underdog Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 COs) to pull off the dismay against the favorite Berlanga (23-1, 18 COs) in their 12-round headliner at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Berlanga’s style: Porter’s View
Porter sees Berlanga as a limited fighter, and he thinks Sheeraz will have too much ability to deal with in this battle. It seems that Shawn formed his view of Edgar of his loss of Canelo Alvarez in 2024, in which he changed his ordinary fighting style and chose to box.
He may not have seen the next battle of Berlanga when he returned to his cruel roots and destroyed Jonathan Gonzalez Orthiz in a first knockout in March. It was Berlanga who fights like him always, and he looked like pure 24k gold.
Many drive on the 12th fight for Berlanga and Hamzah. The winner will be able to fight Canelo next February. Although Turki Alalshikh Net Sheeraz and the Chris Eubank Jr. Vs. Conor Benn 2 winner, because he was in the Canelo Sweepstakes, Berlanga was able to put himself in the slot with a highlight of Sheeraz.
“He’s a very one -time fighter. He is looking for the perfect punch. If the perfect punch is not there, he doesn’t do much to set up anything else, ‘says Shawn Porter of the Ring Magazine channel. “Sheeraz is a very good boxer.”
What Porter is trying to say is that Berlanga loads on his shots and is looking for a knockout with each punch. With his power is the logical thing to do, because in his fight against Canelo Alvarez we have seen that he is less effective than he is boxes.
Berlanga’s coached return was ignored
In that battle, Berlanga kept away from falling and hopelessly falling behind. When he finally returned to his aggressive, search-and-destructed style in the twelfth, he bombed Canelo with shots.
What fans saw is that if Edgar fought the whole battle like that, he would have struck Canelo or won a clear decision. In the 12th, the Mexican could not match the power of interest and punch output, and it would have been if he started earlier.
“He showed himself well against (Carlos) Adames. So I won Sheeraz the one. I think Sheeraz is going to get it right. I do have respect for Berlanga now that I have not had before, ‘says Porter.
Porter’s Adames Analysis Questioned
It sounds like Porter did not watch in Sheaz’s fight against WBC mid -weight champion Carlos Adames in February. Hamzah did not show “himself well” in that battle. On the contrary, he was poor throughout and pushed out the whole battle by Adames.
The judges scored a 12-round draw, but the boxing world saw it as a clear victory for Adames. I watched the fight and won Adames 11-1. You may argue that Adames should have won 12-0 as there were no rounds that Sheeraz won.
