Whether it “works” depends on who is watching. In the short term, this creates a “fake it till you make it” momentum that serves a few purposes. This essentially creates a marketing shortcut. If you say it loud and often enough on DAZNcan a casual fan actually believe Ennis cleared 147 and is now doing a victory lap at 154.

Promotion, Hearn is trying to snag a Medal of Honor on a guy who hasn’t even completed basic training for that particular rank. In the boxing world, those “fight ribbons” represent the grueling process of mandatory defenses, aside fees and multi-network negotiations that actually lead to an undisputed crown.
By skipping all that and just declaring that the “Twice Undisputed” era has arrived, Hearn is basically giving Ennis an unearned pitch promotion on the front lines. You don’t jump from Lieutenant (with a single belt) to Colonel (Undisputed) overnight. Ennis did a great job at 147, but he never really “cleared the map” there.
For the hardcore fans who know the IBF, Ennis elevated by email at welterweight, this branding feels like an insult. It devalues the actual blood and sweat that guys like Crawford or Usyk put into collecting each belt.
If Ennis doesn’t absolutely dominate Xander Zayas on June 27, the “superstar” narrative collapses. When you promote someone as a multiple undisputed legend, a close decision win or a fight looks like a failure.
