Eddie Hearn says WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson is ready to fight Gervonta Davis next if he overcomes against William Zepeda on Saturday, July 12 in Queens, New York.
Hearn push tank davis fight
Promoter Hearn believes that Stevenson (23-0, 11 COs) will have done enough by defeating Zepeda (33-0, 27 COs) to show that he is the ‘best lightweight in the world’ and is ready to fight the WBA champion Tank Davis. If the Davis-Shakur battle takes place next, it would be a business-type game and not a match involving the two best lightweights.
We just saw Tank struggling and losing his last fight against Lamont Roach. He looked terrible. And Shakur has not yet fought a significant lightweight since his poor performance against Edwin de Los Santos, where he was exposed by him in 2023. Stevenson’s two fights since the bad attempt against these light hits were:
– Josh Padley
– Artem Harutyunyan
Hearn’s contract strategy for Shakur
Understandable, Hearn is in a mad rush To make the tank Davis fight for Shakur, because his duel contract with Matchroom expires with the Zepeda fight. Hearn is likely to expand his contract with Stevenson, and the best way to do this would be to deliver the Gervonta Mega money fight.
The match room boss, Hearn, should at least be seen to try the fight because it is the only one that Shakur wants. He went to the money and the ratification he would receive if he were to use his amateur style to execute a tank to win a decision.
Call out Tank Davis
“I believe Shakur Stevenson is now the best lightweight in the world. Gervonta Davis against Shakur is another tremendous battle. One of the best in the sport. Let us be treated on Saturday, won, and it will be the Crow moment For Shakur Stevenson. “
The comment “Crow moment” by Hearn means that Shakur can rise and Crow like a cockAnd use his seat like a fence to get up to call Tank Davis. It would be ugly to look at, as his lightweight resume would still be weak, even with a win over Zepeda.
We are talking about fighting an electrician, Josh Padley, to Zepeda and then straight in a mega-money fight against Gervonta Davis. Stevenson would still not deserve the fight. To really earn the tank fight, Shakur must beat these fighters one by one in this order without controversy:
- Andy cruz
- Abdullah Mason
- Raymond Muratalla
- Floyd Schofield
- Herrera Cores
Shakur: Hype Job or Eg?
Even though Shakur was signed on a long -term agreement with the match room, Hearn would still be in a hurry to fight the tank Davis. The reason is that Stevenson is not as lightweight as the best guys. If the Gevonta battle is delayed a year or two, New Jersey native Shakur will experience an intense pressure to prove himself against lightweights of quality.
“I think it should (be next). Shakur vs. Zepeda is a wonderful battle. I think this is the type of struggle you really need, ‘said promoter Eddie Hearn that he wants Gervonta Davis next for Shakur Stevenson if he defeats William Zepeda on Saturday.
Tank against Shakur is not the fight that fans ‘really need’. People should see Andy Cruz or Abdullah Mason after Stevenson. Fans must determine if Shakur is genuine or just a falsehood, because the way he has been promoted since moving to lightweight is an example of a manufactured hype lane.
We saw Hearn Edgar Berlanga secure a fight against Canelo Alvarez by adjusting him against two tomato cans after signing him at the match room. Now we see Hearn the same magic with Shakur in the second battle of his two-fold contract with his business.
