Promoter Eddie Hearn says he will meet with Golden Boy during the Times Square week to negotiate a fight between Shakur Stevenson and William Zepeda. Hearn mentions that it “Right Fight” for Shakur (23-0, 11 COs), and that it was ordered by the WBC to defend its lightweight title.
Zepeda’s leverage
Shakur will have to be prepared to surrender a part of his wallet for him to get Zepeda (33-0, 27 COs) to agree to fight. This may not be a significant increase in paying him from the last two fights against Tevin Farmer. Why would he want to challenge Shakur if it’s not going to be more money than he got?
This is a difficult situation for Stevenson and Hearn because they need Zepeda more than he needs it. He is probably more popular and has the following because of his exciting fighting style. The only thing Shakur is going to do for him is his WBC lightweight title, which means nothing.

It will be difficult to get the Zepeda fight now that the Saudi is not offering the money Shakur hoped to get before. He claims that money is not necessary and will take less.
Stevenson (23-0, 11 costs) is of the opinion that Zepeda’s beat will be the key to having a fight against Gervonta Davis. It sounds fine. If Stevenson beat Zepeda, chances are he will look bad by running, and it will ruin his plans.
A ‘fantastic’ battle?
“The wallet messengers will come. We sit down at Fatal Fury at Times Square Week at Golden Boy at Fatal Fury,” says Hearn. “I think it’s a fantastic battle. We want to make a deal. I think it’s probably one of the most fantastic fights in the division.
“It’s the right battle for Shakur, and more importantly, it’s ordered by the WBC. This is the battle we will take next, and hopefully we can reach an agreement with Golden Boy,” Hearn said of the Stevenson against Zepeda Clash.
