The DAZN PPV rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk takes place on December 21 in Saudi Arabia with the Gypsy King determined to avenge his only career defeat. Promoter Eddie Hearn, who previously supported the Ukrainian, has now reversed course. Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn admitted a change of heart and explained the potential impact of a Fury win.
“If Fury wins – and I’m actually leaning towards him, I’ve had a bit of a switch – Fury could fight Anthony Joshua for the unified world heavyweight title,” he said. “The greatest fight ever in sports. Wembley, Riyadh, wherever.”
This dramatic shift comes just weeks after Hearn openly said that Usyk’s skill, ring IQ and previous triumphs made him the logical favourite: “I have no idea how to beat Usyk, but Tyson Fury is a very smart fighter . He’s got smart people in the corner, but also, from an IQ level in boxing, he’s right up there. Unfortunately, so is Oleksandr Usyk. So, my money, especially when he won the first fight, will always be on Oleksandr Usyk. My heart wants to see a Tyson Fury win… I would love to see him do it, but I see him as the underdog in this fight.”
Hearn’s comments come after Fury confirmed a potential trilogy with Usyk contingent on winning the upcoming rematch.
