Eddie Hearn says Matchroom ‘unstoppable’ with 200 DAZN shows

In an interview today with The pounding groundHearn revealed the scope of the commitment extends far beyond a typical rights extension. Matchroom is expected to stage a minimum of 30 shows per year, with the total possibly rising to 40 annually. This would result in approximately 200 events over the lifetime of the agreement.

Guaranteed schedule

“If you’re a good promoter with a good TV deal, you’re inescapable,” Hearn said. “And that’s us, because now we have a minimum of 30 shows a year. A minimum is probably going to be 40. That’s 200 shows over the next five years.”

The guaranteed dates give Matchroom a consistent schedule to keep its roster active and visible. Hearn said maintaining regular events is essential given the size of the company’s stable, which includes more than 100 fighters competing across multiple weight classes and regions.

“I can’t have four shows a year,” Hearn said. “I have over 100 fighters, the best fighters in the world, and I have to allow them to pursue their dreams and legacies and fulfill my promises to them.”

Hearn also emphasized the importance of broadcast support to maintain relevance and influence as a promoter.

“You can be a great promoter, but if you don’t have a TV deal, you’re irrelevant,” he said.

Matchroom first aligned with DAZN in 2018 as part of the platform’s early expansion into boxing. At the time, streaming was still considered an uncertain model compared to traditional television. The new deal secures Matchroom’s position on DAZN for another full cycle, guaranteeing regular screenings in major markets including the United States and the United Kingdom.

The deal keeps Matchroom on DAZN for another full five-year cycle, ensuring the company will continue to run regular events across its US and UK markets.
