Eddie Hearn says he still plans to put on PPV cards because he has to feed him the big fights. He is pleased that Turki Alalshikh has chosen to make his Riyadh season meetings free on Dazn. It’s not going to change anything for his events. He will continue to sell the larger people who Anthony Joshua, Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr.
Hearn’s PPV strategy
“I think PPV is important to have big fights, but I think there are too many fights that are on pay-pervention,” Eddie Hearn said Fight Hub TVRespond to Turki Alalshikh who announced his Riyadh season meetings will be free on Dazn as part of the usual subscription for that platform.
The events that will now be shown on PPV on Dazn will have to be the ones for fans interested in paying. They will not be eager to see just any event that the promoters tackle. Putting Anthony Joshua’s fights on PPV is questionable because he was washed and did not hit a good heavyweight in years.
Value for fighting fans
“I think last Saturday’s show. Would it have been PPV, or would it have been part of your subscriptions? Different battles in different places and different time zones,” says Hearn. “I think it’s great for Dazn and the subscribers, because they’re going to get more PPV fights as part of their subscription, which means the battle fan will receive more value.”
Last Saturday’s PPV card, with the head of Edgar Berlanga against Hamzah Sheeraz, was worth being placed on pay-perview. The only problem was the running order.
Berlanga-Heeraz should have been placed on the map three or four. Shakur Stevenson against William Zepeda was the right main event, and David Morrell against Imam Khaev the true co-function. That fight stole the show. It was easily the best of all night in terms of drama.
“Will PPV still exist? Absolutely. Will it still exist for us? Absolutely. But many of our shows do not do many PPV shows away from Benn-Feubank, Joshua and such things. We want shows like Saturday, those big fights, to be part of your subscription to Dazn,” Hearn said.
Anthony Joshua does not bring large numbers of American fans into his events. Now that the re -broadcast between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. Out, it is a less PPV event that Hearn will have the opportunity to dress.
“PPV is not dead on Dazn, it is certain. Dazn will continue to do PPV, but there will be more larger performances than part of your subscription, which I think is fantastic,” says Hearn.
Turki Alalshikh: Free Dazn Impact
What Hearn may not realize is that the PPV events shown on Dazn will bring in fewer purchases, because fans will be spoiled by the many free opportunities Turki Alalshikh tackles. He tends to load his cards with excellent battles. Hearn and the other promoters who choose to place their events on PPV can buy less.
