Dzambekov knocks out Elbiali in Round 2 co-main event bout

Umar Dzambekov just sent a massive message to the light heavyweight division. The up-and-coming southpaw needed less than two rounds to dismantle veteran Ahmed Elbiali, who closed the show with a clinical display of power in the co-main event of Zuffa Boxing 03.

The end came suddenly in the second round. Dzambekov found a home for a vicious uppercut that sent Elbiali crashing to the canvas. There was no need for a score; the referee had seen enough the moment Elbiali hit the deck and immediately waved off the match.

A new power at 175 pounds

It wasn’t just another win for the Los Angeles-based prospect. While Elbiali entered the ring as the seasoned veteran with 26 fights and a seven-year undefeated streak, Dzambekov treated him like a stepping stone.

Heading into the night, the big question was how Dzambekov would handle the jump in competition. It was his first scheduled ten-rounder and his debut on a major Zuffa Boxing main card. He answered those questions by recording his 10th shutout in 14 starts, proving his power is translating as he moves up the ladder.

For Elbiali, this is a tough setback. Fighting out of Las Vegas, he built up significant momentum with eight straight wins since 2017. However, he couldn’t handle the speed and accuracy of the younger southpaw.

Dzambekov now moves forward as a legitimate concern at 175 pounds, while Elbiali is forced to regroup after only his second career loss.

Here’s what the numbers look like after that explosive finish:

Fighter Record KOs
Umar Dzambekov 14-0 10
Ahmed Elbiali 24-2 19
