Dundee United vs Celtic: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Celtic will have to put aside their controversial Scottish League Cup final victory when they visit Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers’ side beat their Old Firm rivals rangers on penalties to win their first piece of silverware of the season at Hampden Park, with the Scottish Premiership title likely to follow at the end of the campaign provided they avoid capitulation.

The Bhoys have won 14 and drawn one of their 15 league games so far and conceded just four times, with another emphatic win expected on Sunday. Although Dundee United have enjoyed a strong first half of the season, they are 19 points adrift of Celtic with one more game played, such is the difference in quality between the teams.

here it is 90 minutes guide to CelticTannadice’s Journey.

Jim Goodwin

Dundee United are short a handful of first-team players for the visit of Celtic on Sunday, but Jim Goodwin has the majority of his squad at his disposal. Craig Sibbald, Louis Moult and Kristijan Trapanovski will miss out through injury.

Ross Graham has returned to the bench in recent weeks following a hamstring injury and could feature from the start on Sunday. Defender Will Ferry is also available after missing the recent 4-3 defeat to Motherwell through suspension.

Dundee United’s expected line-up against Celtic (3-5-2): Walton; Adegboyega, Gallagher, Holt; Strain, Stephenson, Sevelj, Babunski, Ferry; Dalby, Middleton.

James Forrest

Celtic did not come through the Scottish League Cup final unscathed James Forrest, who equals the record now out for six weeks after an injury sustained against Rangers. Alistair Johnston is also a major doubt after being withdrawn in the final after 70 minutes.

Odin Thiago Holm has rarely played for Celtic this season but is currently sidelined with a calf injury. The Norwegian will not return until the new year.

The Hoops were tested physically last weekend after playing 120 minutes but have had a week to recover. They are unlikely to make radical changes for the trip to Dundee.

Predicted Celtic line-up against Dundee United (4-3-3): Schmeichel; Ralston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Taylor; Bernardo, McGregor, Hatate; Kuhn, Furuhashi, Maeda.

Dundee United have impressed since their return to the top flight but are unlikely to reap any rewards from Celtic’s visit to Tannadice. They have one of the best defensive records in the first but they are yet to face a team of the caliber of the Bhoys.

Celtic have won all but one of their league games this season and will have no qualms against Tannadice. They have good attacking form and are currently averaging just under three goals per game.

Prediction: Dundee United 0-2 Celtic
