Daniel Dubois has agreed to fight Frank Sanchez in a final of the IBF to determine a compulsory challenger to the undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr uksyk.
Chasing the USyk trilogy
For Dubois (22-3, 21 CO’s), this is his best way to set himself up for a profitable trilogy match against USKy.
Former IBF champion Dubois’s wallet for his recent knockout loss in the fifth round earlier this year was on July 19 $ 71 million. So, understandably, he is willing to wage a risky fight against the Cuban Sanchez (25-1, 18 COs) in the hope of getting a third massive payday against USyk. It is much better to take that risk than to go in a different direction.

It was surprising that Itauma also chose not to fight against Frank Sanchez, but he was perhaps too advanced from a fighter for his level.
Cuban danger zone
To stand up against Sanchez, a fighter who is avoided like the pest is a sign of pure desperation of Dubois’s part. The Cuban has fast hand speed, power and combination punch that makes him one of the most dangerous fighters in the division. Although Frank was stopped by Agit Kabayel on May 18, 2024, a contributing factor was that he fought with an injured knee.
If Dubois loses again …
Yet Sanchez landed very heavy shots at Kabayel’s head, which showed toughness to take up the penalty. With Dubois’s sometimes fragile punching resistance, it is difficult to imagine that he can withstand Sanchez’s power for a long time without going in. A knockout loss can play the end of Dubois’s career.
