“Don’t test me!” – Vincent Kompany explains furious rant against Burnley player in viral clip

Former Burnley manager Vincent Kompany claims he lost his temper with Johann Berg Gudmundsson last season because “they were giving their lives for our club”.

For the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, the Clarets have granted Sky Sports behind-the-scenes access to film a documentary series about the club.

Ahead of the second season’s premiere, a clip emerged on social media of Kompany berating Gudmundsson in training with exasperation and ferocity.

“Joey, don’t test me. Don’t test me. Enough whining. Enough whining!” Kompany shouted.

“Play crap at football. You have to work crap for everything. Play crap! How many times do I have to tell you? Stop whining.

“What? Do you have something you want to communicate to the team?

“Do you want to communicate something, big boy? You’re a big boy, do you want to talk?”

After Gudmundsson protested his innocence, company he retorted, “No, you’re crying about everything!

“Body language sucks and I don’t accept it. Play!

“It’s life and death shit. It was a game! It was… I’ve had enough of this!”

Burnley ended up being relegated from the Premier League and Kompany was appointed head coach of Bayern Munich.

In an interview with DH Sports+Kompany explained about the verbal spat with Gudmundsson.

— I also explained to him calmly! Kompany laughed. “This is actually the first time this year at Bayern that I don’t have a camera crew filming my whole season for a documentary. It was the case at Anderlecht and Burnley.

“When every speech and every training session is filmed, there is always a moment like that. But the message of all this is that we are giving our lives for our club. If the club goes down, people will lose their jobs. We have a responsibility.

“We should never be in a situation where we have a lack of focus. It wasn’t a bad pass or a bad tactical choice, it was fundamental things: running and fighting for each other.

“He had broken the basic principles.”
