The same result in different courses can mean very different things about your performance. The differential result makes things clear.

Just as not all players are created equal, not all golf courses are clones. Models change. The degree of difficulty also fluctuates.
What does that mean? For one thing, it means that a result, say, 82 in the course can represent a less (or more) performance impressive than a result of 82 shot in the course B. It depends on how difficult the dirty is and what to play.

Which one ask another question: How does the handicap system ensure that the result you have recorded is an accurate reflection of your performance?
The answer is something called the “differential result”.
Differential score measures a round performance with regard to the difficulty of the course played taking into account the course assessment and Slopewhich are listed on the results card. The score difference also the factors in the conditions of the daily game. Let’s say bad weather made the course more challenging than usual. The score difference can be adapted for this as well.
These include some math. The good news is, you don’t have to do it. When posting a score towards your handicap, the system suppresses the numbers automatically. Something similar applies if you Play only nine holes. The system automatically generates an 18 -hole score differential by combining nine that you have ended with an expected result for the nine holes you have not played. As the term suggests, an expected result is what a player with a certain handicap is expected to shoot in those particular holes.
This is the beauty of the handicap system. For all changes in players and golf courses, we can all compete in a playing field.
