The broom putters have been spending a moment recently. We saw stellar shows by Lucas Glover and Akshay Bhatia in 2025 player championshipBoth have long layers, of the broom style in the bag. Not to mention the latest transition of Grant Horvat to a village putter that resulted in his victory in 2025 Classic Creator.
With so many excellent players keeping these longer places longer, it is difficult not to wonder if you would take advantage of making the change. So I arrived at Jason Baile 2025 PGA of America Teacher of the Year, Top 100 Golf teacher And Lucas Glover coach, to learn more.

What are the benefits of a broom putter?
If you want to increase your contact and durability in green, switching to a longer layer may be the right movement for you. Baile explains that speed control and facial control are intertwined and that most amateurs make an ordinary mistake in the greens that rob them from both: making it too long a stroke.
“They think they should really follow the target,” Baile says.
While sounding good in theory, Baile explains that stroke is what the powers put. When the backpack is too short, it forces you to fix the ‘hit’ of your stroke to control the distance. This makes you lose your ability to control your speed and often makes you manipulate a little or the club turn in influence.
How can the broom pair help?
“Because it is concentrated upwards on the chest, the back hinge can of course be a little longer and the forward shock may end earlier,” Baile says, “when balanced that way, the speed becomes better and the contact becomes better.”
This change encourages players to use the length of their stroke to control speed without getting too much in their heads. Baile says the result is almost always a slight blow with slight distance control.
How long does it take to feel comfortable with a broom?
Depending on how much you practice, Baile says it can last between two days and a few weeks, no more than two, feel safe with the broom in hand.
