- Mizuno introduces three new M.Craft X gauges.
- M.Craft X shooters are modular models constructed from 1025 forged steel and milled aluminum.
- MSRP $399.99
Mizuno decided to mix things up with their latest rubber offering. The new M.Craft X putters are modular in construction. There are three 1025 steel neck options and three different milled aluminum back sections.
Basic math says you can order your M.Craft X in one of nine neck and back combinations. There are also three adjustable weight options to match your tire weight to your specifications.
Other companies have tried modular casting systems, but none have caught on in the market. What makes the new M.Craft X system different? Can Mizuno’s modular shot plan succeed where others have struggled?
Mizuno M.Craft Design Basics
As I mentioned, the M.Craft X legs consist of two main parts. The tire face is forged from 1025 steel and then milled to shape. Your stroke will dictate which neck (slant, stub, or plumb) is your best fit.
The second M.Craft X component you’ll choose is the CNC-milled aluminum rear. There are three options. Four is a broad, square shape; Five is rounded like a traditional hammer, and Six is a fang design.
The interesting thing about aluminum parts is that they all have the same weight. This means you can swap them in and out without changing the weight of your shooter. The MOI value will be slightly higher (+400 or so) for the fang-shaped Six, but otherwise the overall weight remains the same when you swap out the different rear parts.
The simple complexity of the Mizuno M.Craft
The key to the success of the Mizuno M.Craft X line is not the complexity of options, but the simplicity of execution. Mizuno has developed a system that is very easy to understand and simple to use.
The face and back sections are secured together with large toe weights. All you have to do is put the front and back together and screw the weights on with the M.Craft X adapter and steering key.
It is worth noting that the parts fit well together. You should not hear any vibration between the components on impact. After all, this is Mizuno. We expect their tolerances to be tight and they are. There are also some rubber pads to keep the parts secure and vibration free.
jQuery(document).ready(function($) { var slides = $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa74133 .mgs-gallery-images .mgs-gallery-image’ ).length; if (slides 6) { slides $( 6; } ‘ #mgs_gallery_678135fa74133 .mgs-gallery-images’ ).slick( { slidesTo Show: 1, slidesToScroll: 1, fade: true, prevArrow: ‘‘, next arrow:’ ‘, asNavFor: ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa74133 .mgs-gallery-thumbs’, swipe: false, mobileFirst: true, } ); $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa74133 .mgs-gallery-thumbs’ ).slick( { slidesToShow: ( slides – 1 ), //less than the number of slides, so it always shows infinite slides (bugfix) slidesToMove , false arrow : asNavFor : ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa74133 .mgs-gallery-images’, centerMode: true , focusOnSelect : true , infinite : true , mobileFirst : true , responsive : ( { breakpoint : 1023 , settings : { slidesToShow : 3 , { 0 , 6, }:} , settings: { slidesToShow: 1, }, }, ), } ); $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa74133’ ).magnificPopup( { delegate: ‘.mgs-gallery-trigger’, type: ‘image’, gallery: { enabled: true, arrowMarkup: ‘‘, }, } ); } );
The whole package is one face, one back and two weights. The only specialized tool you need is the adapter to screw the weights on. You won’t need an engineering degree to change your excavator parts.
Are you really going to change your nail?
It’s entirely possible that you’ll never change your M.Craft X rig once you determine your ideal build specifications. Precision fitment is another great feature of the M.Craft X system. The modularity allows you to work with a club fitter to build a custom barrel for you.
Mizuno will distribute fitting systems in stores, allowing you to understand what you need before you order. Simply determine the neck, back and weights that work for you and order your shooter.
If the initial build is effective, don’t change anything. Later, if you wish you had gone with the Six rear, order the Six rear and swap it out. If you want it heavier (or lighter), you can change the weights.
The M.Craft X system gives you options on the road. Without modularity, you’d be buying a new meter.
M.Craft X Four
This M.Craft X Four has a sloping hull, creating a toe that hangs about 40 degrees below horizontal. Especially with this pit you will feel how these hammers are designed to swing like a blade. The steel front and aluminum rear put the center of gravity for the M.Craft X machines at the front.
jQuery(document).ready(function($) { var slides = $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa79335 .mgs-gallery-images .mgs-gallery-image’ ).length; if (slides 6) { slides $(6; } ‘ #mgs_gallery_678135fa79335 .mgs-gallery-images’ ).slick( { slidesToShow: 1, slidesToScroll: 1, fade: true, prevArrow: ‘‘, next arrow:’ ‘, asNavFor: ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa79335 .mgs-gallery-thumbs’, swipe: false, mobileFirst: true, } ); $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa79335 .mgs-gallery-thumbs’ ).slick( { slidesToShow: ( slides – 1 ), //less than the number of slides, so it always shows infinite slides (bugfix) slidesToMove , false arrows : asNavFor : ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa79335 .mgs-gallery-images’, centerMode: true, focusOnSelect: true, infinite: true, mobileFirst: true, responsive: ( { breakpoint: 1023, settings: { slidesToShow: 3, { 0 , 6, }:} , settings: { slidesToShow: 1, }, }, ), } ); $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa79335’ ).magnificPopup( { delegate: ‘.mgs-gallery-trigger’, type: ‘image’, gallery: { enabled: true , arrowMarkup: ‘‘, }, } ); } );
Although all three of these gauges are 100 percent hammer in appearance, the forward CG value will make them feel like blades during impact.
Mountains that feel like blades are a recurring theme of tire design these days for a reason. This shooting style marries the familiar feel of the blade with reinforced hammer MOI and extended hammer alignment patterns. Basically, you have a shooter with the useful aspects of a hammer that feels like a blade.
M.Craft X Five
The Mizuno M.Craft X Five is a rounded hammer design. This version is combined with the front of the neck, creating a classic round hammer hammer look. The neck makes the person balanced on the face. Again, the fun thing about this line of shooters is that if you want a face-to-back balanced shooter, you can order it that way. Or order later and easily replace the aluminum sections.
jQuery(document).ready(function($) { var slides = $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7c297 .mgs-gallery-images .mgs-gallery-image’ ).length; if (slides 6) { slides $(6; } ‘ #mgs_gallery_678135fa7c297 .mgs-gallery-images’ ).slick( { slidesTo Show: 1, slidesToScroll: 1, fade: true, prevArrow: ‘‘, next arrow:’ ‘, asNavFor: ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7c297 .mgs-gallery-thumbs’, swipe: false, mobileFirst: true, } ); $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7c297 .mgs-gallery-thumbs’ ).slick( { slidesToShow: ( slides – 1 ), //less than the number of slides, so it always shows infinite slides (bugfix) slidesToMove , false arrow : asNavFor : ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7c297 .mgs-gallery-images’, centerMode: true, focusOnSelect: true, infinite: true, mobileFirst: true, responsive: ( { breakpoint: 1023, settings: { slidesToShow: 3, { 0 , }:} , settings: { slidesToShow: 1, }, }, ), } ); $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7c297’ ).magnificPopup( { delegate: ‘.mgs-gallery-trigger’, type: ‘image’, gallery: { enabled: true , arrowMarkup: ‘‘, }, } ); } );
The face milling on the M.Craft X line is quite deep, softening the impact feel. They don’t have any assistive groove technology, but the tone and impact feel are satisfying. They hit hard wisecrack more than one click.
M.Craft X Six
If you’re a fang fan, M.Craft X Six is your shooter. This Six has a hydraulic neck, providing about 20 degrees of fingerboard hang. This is the face that will feel most familiar to those of you who play Anser-style shooters.
The rear sections of the M.Craft X stakes are all the same weight. However, different neck styles create different front weights. The plumber’s neck is about 30 grams heavier than the slant/bow neck and 14 heavier than the slant neck.
jQuery( document ).ready( function($) { var slides = $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7da21 .mgs-gallery-images .mgs-gallery-image’ ).length; if ( slides 6 ) { slides = $( 6 ; } ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7da21 .mgs-gallery-images’ ).slick( { slidesToShow: 1, slidesToScroll: 1, fade: true, prevArrow: ‘‘, next arrow:’ ‘, asNavFor: ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7da21 .mgs-gallery-thumbs’, swipe: false, mobileFirst: true, } ); $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7da21 .mgs-gallery-thumbs’ ).slick( { slidesToShow: ( slides – 1 ), //less than number of slides, so always show infinite slides (bugfix) slidesToMove: 1 false , arrows : 1 asNavFor: ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7da21 .mgs-gallery-images’, centriMode: true, focusOnSelect: true, infinite: true, mobileFirst: true, responsive: ( { breakpoint: 1023, settings: { slidesToShow: 3, { 0 }, 6, 0, , settings: { slidesToShow: 1, }, }, ), } ); $( ‘#mgs_gallery_678135fa7da21’ ).magnificPopup( { delegate: ‘.mgs-gallery-trigger’, type: ‘image’, gallery: { enabled: true , arrowMarkup: ‘‘, }, } ); } );
Mizuno varies the weight of the sole weights to compensate for this difference, ensuring that the stock weight for all three necks is 365 grams. If you want to go heavier or lighter, you can change the weights. You can take the plumber’s neck head weight up to 393 grams if you want.
Mizuno M.Craft X is modular done right
Over the past few cycles, Mizuno has become quite the throwaway company. They may not come up in the same conversations as Cameron or Odyssey, but their players are top notch. This new M.Craft X line is based on the success of the original M.Craft shooters and also welcome M.Craft OMOI firing line.
Mizuno is carving its own space in the oyster market by following their muse. Whether it’s the heavy-duty design in the OMOI line or the modular nature of this new line, Mizuno is willing to try new ideas.
The willingness to experiment, combined with Mizuno’s reputation for precision construction, is a plan that will bring nothing but good things to the horse corral.
