Gjokovic, who played some of his best tennis so far this two weeks in New York, was pleased with his performance in general.

“This eventually helps if you serve well,” Gjokovic said in court when asked if it was his intention to hold short matches. “I think I have had an excellent service performance in the last round, and also tonight. Maybe I don’t have to work so hard, or unnecessarily more than it should. So I’m trying to use the box with the service, as accurately and efficiently as possible.

“Most of my career I was running, I was slipping, I was quarreling in court, so I don’t think it will change.

Next for Djokovic is last year’s finalist and seed no.4 of the current Fritz. The 28-year-old American repulsed in the last eight of New York for the third year in a row with a convincing 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 victory over no. 21 Seed Tomas Machac of czechekia.

“I had some battles the last matches of the couple, but I just felt very much, very called, ready to go tonight. I thought I was really strong, I put many balls in trial, was aggressive at the right time and supported it well with good services,” Fritz said after the match.

Fritz will need some good services, and then some, if he wants to find a long way Djokovic.

So far, Gjokovic has enjoyed a 25-0 head command against his last two opponents Cameron Norrie (7-0), struff (8-0), and including fritz (10-0).

The last time Gjokovic and Fritz faced each other in the Open US quarter-final was 2023 where the great champion 24 times enjoyed a comfortable 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory.

“I don’t think there will be a big difference with Taylor, because, you know, you definitely adhere to a kind of game plan that brought you to the quarter, and you know what your strengths are. You adhere to them, you know, weapons, so say, in your game, which is undoubtedly served and two big guns.

“I think over the years he has improved with his move very. Backhand is also very strong, very flat. For a big boy, he moves really well. I think he is quite underestimated how well he is moving, and especially in recent years, which was probably missing in his game before.”

“For me, in my head, I’m not thinking about all the losses I needed to Novak when I was, I don’t know, like, five years ago. I was nowhere near the level of the player I am now,” Fritz told Djokovic’s next match.

“You know, this is what makes the best guys the best boys. They won’t give you in those moments. You have to go and get it,” Fritz added.
