New York – Devin Haney and Brian Norman jr. Attended the Ring IV Conference in New York this past weekend, and the day before the press they had a break that went on social media viral. The video clip shows that Haney’s bodyguard puts his hands on Norman and his team. At the press conference they were less hostile, but the tension was still there.
It will be Devin’s first battle at Welterweight, and he chose a fight against the running Norman. “I think it’s one -sided. I’m going in there and handicap him. I know he has power. We all know that they have power, but against guys we have never seen before. We’ve never heard of these guys. So, I will show him that, you know that the power is good. Muscle is good. It is a muscle. He got a lot of muscles, but muscles don’t win at this high level. At the best of the best, it is not a matter. I will show him, ”Haney said of Norman’s power.
Although Devin may not admit it, he can potentially choose to use a similar strategy as the one he used against Jose Ramirez, using constant lateral movement to evade bumps. This would minimize its exposure to Norman’s power stamps. Devin won the match against Ramirez, but it was not a fan -friendly fight. Many were disappointed with the performance.
Shakur Stevenson, who also received similar criticism in the past, decided this past Saturday to involve more against William Zepeda and provide a very entertaining match. He stepped on Turki Alalshikh by wearing a Tom and Jerry hat to the ring, because it was Turki who made the statement that the Riyadh season would no longer support such fights. Shakur won the match, but did more damage than he normally tackled. Zepeda landed 272 strokes, most of them by a Stevenson opponent.
Haney will try to achieve a healthy balance of in-and-out movement to make the battle aesthetically pleasant and not expose himself to unnecessary punishment. However, Devin can underestimate the WBO Welterweight Champion by believing that he is not as skilled as him.
“It doesn’t matter. I am the levels above this man, no matter what weight we get at 140, 145, 143, 147. It doesn’t matter. I’m above him, ‘Haney said when asked about his turnout to Welterweight. This is Devin’s first fight at 147, a weight with larger punchers, and he fights one of the biggest punches in the division, Brian.
It may be a mistake to think that Norman is unable to be competitive against him. The last opponent who underestimated Haney was Ryan Garcia, and although the outcome of the match was overturned, giving Norman the opportunity to land similar bumps to those who ended up by Ryan, it could be expensive. The best thing to do is respect Norman’s skill and not think that he is easily defeatable.
The match is the co-head meeting at the Ring IV card set in Saudi Arabia on November 22. The Stacking Card contains the following matches:
