Dinesh Karthik orders BCCI to pick Varun Chakravarthy in India’s CT squad


Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik believes it would be a serious mistake not to pick Varun Chakravarty in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 despite the mystery spinner yet to make his ODI debut.

Varun Chakraborty has consistently impressed everyone with his spin, but he is yet to play an ODI match for India. The 29-year-old spinner once again showcased his talent in the second T20I against South Africa at St Georges Park where he took five wickets and almost put India in a winning position.

Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy produced an exceptional performance in the second T20I against South Africa, recording figures of 5/17, the best bowling figures in T20I cricket for a player from a full-member nation due to defeat. Despite his brilliant spell, India failed to clinch victory, but Varu’s performance stood out as one of the highlights of the second T20I.

Varun, who will make his T20I debut in 2021, initially struggled to cement his place in the Indian cricket team, but found a new spark after returning to the national team for the T20I series against Bangladesh earlier this year in October. He claimed five wickets in three T20Is against Bangladesh.

His form from the Bangladesh T20I series against India has carried over to the ongoing four-match T20I series in South Africa, where he has been impressive with the ball so far. In the first T20I against South Africa in Durban, Chakraborty took three wickets and his five-wicket haul in the second game further cemented his role as one of India’s key spinners in T20Is.
