In the world of sports, at some point in the career of an elite athlete, the individual achieves an achievement translated into a special moment, and on Saturday night, March 1, in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, many fighting fans were robbed of his moment.
Lamont Roach, who comes in the WBA Lightweight World title match, was considered a big underdog. However, Roach was a discipline to his game plan, and as a result, he got a controversial draw.
Initially when the battle was announced, the hard box fans were not impressed because Roach was the third fighter who came up in weight to challenge Davis. The casual fans embraced the fight because of the geographical aspect.
Baltimore and Washington DC have been doing an intense rivalry for many decades that arose as a result of cultural differences. In this particular championship attack, it happens that Gevonta Davis is from Baltimore, and Lamont Roach is a native of Washington DC.
On the Fight Night represented the DMV area, as a sold-out crowd that met within the Barclays Center. In the opening round of the WBA Lightweight World title, the challenger used Lamont Roach Feints, threw the stab and the right to the body.
The first round had the traditional slow start of tank, as he landed only one punch in the opening round. Lamont Roach continued in the second round to take the lead while being carefully pushed forward.
Davis started the 3rd round by landing a few solid shots on the body, but while the round was declining, Roach replied by letting a right hand end up. In the fourth round, Davis displayed his lateral movement, and when he planted his feet, he made contact with a clean left hand, followed by a right to the body.
In the final seconds of the fourth round, while Davis and Roach were in a clinic, the referee said to hit and climb out. Roach landed a sneaking right hand while in the clinic, and when the tank turned away to complain to the referee, Roach landed a clean left hand.
After Davis landed two consecutive left hand in the 5th round, he and Roach became involved in another clinic. Davis continued to push his right shoulder, and it ended up under the chin of his opponent. Roach immediately answered by switching with a short right hand.
At the center of the fight, Davis picked up the pace when he contacted a number of left -hand shots. Roach became exceptionally brave in round 7 when he stood in the bag and traded with Davis bumps. In the eighth round, Lamont Roach had a big moment when he ended up a counter right hand that Davis rose.
The controversial moment of the fight occurred during the 9th round at the 2:18 point. After Roach Davis beat with a right hand, followed by a stitch, Davis takes a step back and takes a knee. Davis continues to jog to his corner to wipe his face.
The referee warned Davis in which he said what he looked like a knockout, but fortunately Davis did not decide the referee as a knockout. As the game continued, Tank loaded his shots and threw with bad intentions.
However, Roach was able to take the shots and respond by landing some big blows of his own. Over the course of the championships, confident challenger Lamont Roach stood in the bag and he still had success with his right hand.
After the 12-round championship, the tension level was at a peak of all time, as everyone waited impatiently to hear the official total total. After 36 minutes of action, one judge scored the match 115-113 for Davis, but the map was rejected, as the other two judges both scored the match 114-114.
Since the match was declared a draw, everyone immediately traced back to the Knockdown, which is not called a Knockdown. During his interview after the fight, Gervonta Davis gave his explanation about what happened during that controversial moment.
“I just did my hair two days ago and she put fat in my sh*t,” Davis said. “So the sh*t was as you know, like when you sweat and things like that, and the fat gets in my face, it burned my eyes. Damn, why do you say like I say bullsh*t? Like these are real facts. Come on man. “
If the referee would have enforced the rule and called the Knockdown properly, it would have been a 10-8 round for Roach, but unfortunately the knockout was not mentioned and two of the three judges led the 9th round 10-9 in favor of Gervonta Davis.
The missed call by the referee hurt Lamont Roach on the scorecards and it gave a bad look. For example, if the roles were reversed and Lamont Roach took a knee because he had fat in his eyes, it would certainly be called a Knockdown.
Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 costs) believes he won the battle, but unfortunately it was declared a draw for him. Roach did not win, but during the press conference after the fight, he talked about the moral victory of fighting under the bright lights and proving that he deserved to be there.
“I thought I won, I thought I was doing enough to win over a spectacular fighter. I said from the beginning that I had the skills to pay the Mutha F ** kin accounts. “
