Devin Haney made a cryptic post on X, telling his followers, “I’m coming,” but not elaborating on its meaning. He has no fights scheduled, and his father Bill Haney’s efforts to lure Ryan Garcia into a rematch have been blown out of the water. Ryan is not interested for obvious reasons.
Bill posted a clip of Devin (31-0, 15 KOs) working out, and he looked in good shape for a welterweight fighter. In his post on Instagram, he said they are coming back for “Everything we came into the game to get.”
We assume Bill is talking about getting the big money fights, but Devin doesn’t have many options other than a rematch with Ryan Garcia. Neither fighter at welterweight is popular, and the same goes for the 140-lb division.
Haney should consider moving up to welterweight and be selective about the opponents he chooses to avoid getting beaten like he was against Ryan. There are plenty of good options at welterweight for Haney to fight for a confidence-boosting bout. However, it will be hard to sell that type of fight on PPV.
So, depending on which promotional company he decides to partner with for his next fight, Haney may have to be open to appearing on regular DAZN, ESPN or Amazon Prime Video.
It’s not looking good for Devin to bounce back from his loss to Ryan. Fans no longer believe in Haney, and his lack of power and punch resistance could limit his chances of success in any weight class. If possible, Haney could return to 135 and use his massive size advantage over the fighters in that weight class to make good money fighting Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis.
Re-signing with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom would give Haney a chance to fight Shakur Stevenson, but it’s unlikely he can get down to 135. If he did, it could put him in the hospital, take off all the water weight and shut down his kidneys.
They know I’m coming..
